Door Information
Gear Version References
An active gear is the primary functioning gear in a door.
The active gear must be disengaged first to unlock
the door or engaged last in a pair of French doors for
locking.
An inactive gear is the secondary functioning gear in
a pair of French doors and can only be opened after
the “active gear” or primary gear has been activated.
The inactive gear makes the secondary door handle
operable.
RH is the standard abbreviation for right handed. HLS
TM
7 Series* gears are orientated for left or right doors. See
handing chart below.
LH is the standard abbreviation for left handed. HLS
TM

Door handing is always determined from the exterior.
When hinges are on the left, the door is LH; when hinges are on the right, door is RH.
Inswing or outswing does not determine handing.
